Tales from tech support

Just had someone call that asked for "someone in command who's in charge of something". Wouldn't get more specific...

Helping customer connect wirelessly. Did screen sharing to accomplish task. One of the available wireless networks is "Love Muscle 69". Did I mention my customer is a woman..... Wonder if she knows this neighbor....

I'm so tired...

Of Apple telling people that Apple products will only work wirelessly using wpa security. Or that there's a problem on our system because ONLY their ipad has problems maintaining a wireless connection, as opposed to the ipad wireless being junk,as the Apple forums and numerous websites have whined about.

Get a call from HP rep. States that our customer is having problems getting connected. States that they've verified beyond a shadow of a doubt that it's our issue. Asked them if they tried pinging router. Doesn't have an answer. Brings customer onto line. Customer complains about how they've been on phone with HP for 4 hours and have determined it's us. Have customer try to ping google. Get "transmit failed, error code 5". A 1 minute search states it's a software issue, possibly related to A/V software. HP tech not happy with me showing it's still a PC issue within 5 minutes of starting my troubleshooting, when they couldn't isolate in 4 hours.. I just can't understand why the HP tech didn't try pinging the router... This is one of the biggest issues with techs having to work from a script instead of being well trained. They tried to test everything instead of just trying to isolate and troubleshoot the specific issue at hand...

Ask customer to unplug the power cable. Customer tells me they understand what I mean. Is there any way to ask this question more simply or clearly?

Busy Busy....

Still keeping up with my workout program, just not as often.  Added my viking warrior conditioning back in, so that's going to make a difference.

Now for all you people out there who weld, you may or may not be able to relate to this, but I did my first successful weld on the type of pipe I'm going to try and start making bikes out of.  I had cut it at an angle and was able to weld it back together well enough that I couldn't break it pounding on the outside curve of the weld with a 5lb sledgehammer.  That tells me that I'm about to the point that the welding portion of my hobby making bikes won't be held back because I can't weld, just that I can't assemble a bike from parts... :)

Haven't been doing as much of my schoolwork as I should be, but have been focusing on a project that I hope I will have off the ground in the next few weeks.  Once I have it running and am having some success, may post about it here.

Anyway, just wanted to do a quick update here while I was working on my laptop.
